Large outbreak of hepatitis A reported from Novosibirsk, Russia

Health authorities have confirmed an outbreak of hepatitis A involving 56 confirmed cases in
the city. Almost 2000 contacts, 31 of whom are children, are receiving hepatitis A vaccine to prevent further spread. A preliminary epidemiological investigation has implicated an eating establishment.

Travellers should be aware that hepatitis A is preventable through vaccination. There is a risk of exposure to hepatitis A virus, and travellers should exercise caution and avoid consuming contaminated food and water.
