Large outbreak of malaria in Alabek Payam in Tonj North County, South Sudan

According to reports, as many as 70 people in the Lou Ariik area have died from what is suspected to be malaria during the months of June and July. The lack of anti-malaria medication is contributing to a high mortality rate. Travellers to any region where malaria transmission is occurring can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.
