Large outbreak of measles in Quebec, Canada

Health officials in the province of Quebec are preparing to launch a massive vaccination campaign in schools to contain what is described as the largest outbreak of measles in North America and South America since 2002. More than 750 cases, most of them in the Mauricie region and central Quebec, have been reported.

Travellers should be aware that outbreaks of the highly contagious measles virus can occur at any time in almost any place in the world. Travellers should ensure that their childhood vaccinations, including measles, are up-to-date prior to travelling.
