Lebanese army deploys in Tripoli

The Lebanese army deployed heavily in Tripoli Friday to maintain calm in the northern city. The deployment follows after the local police killed 2 Islamist militants and arrested an extremist preacher, Sheikh Khaled Hoblos, who is accused of leading an anti-army militia based in the town of Bhannin.

Travellers should be aware of on-going sectarian tensions in Tripoli, partly due to the fact that local groups have supported opposite factions in the Syrian civil war. Travellers should avoid visiting this area at the present time.
