Legionellosis - Legionaire's disease death in Edinburgh, Scotland (update)

One person has died and the number of confirmed and suspected cases of legionellosis has increased from 10 to 32.

Transmission of legionellosis usually occurs following exposure to warm aerosolized water as the bacteria are inhaled through water droplets in water sprays or mists. Exposure can occur in or around hot tubs, showers, or from air conditioning systems in buildings with cooling towers.

Travellers who develop serious respiratory symptoms after being in air conditioned buildings should seek medical care as soon as possible.
