Legionnaire's disease in European tourists who visited Lazise, Italy

Officials of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control have reported 11 cases of travel-associated Legionnaires’ disease (TALD) in one month. These cases are associated with four accommodation sites in the town of Lazise, Italy. The infected tourists were from Austria, Denmark, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands who stayed in local accommodations between July 7, 2011 and August 31, 2011.

Intensive environmental investigations are underway to locate the source of this outbreak. Travellers who visited and stayed overnight in this town and who develop respiratory symptoms should consult their personal physician as soon as possible.
