Leishmaniasis is an on-going risk in Mardan district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan

For the past 2 years, there have been regular reports of over 890 cases of leishmaniasis in the Mardan district. In March and April of this year, there were 312 cases reported. The affected areas include Bezo Kharkai, Jalala, Lund Khwar, Mian Esa, Ikrampura, Muslimabad and other rural areas. Travellers to this region can reduce their risk of exposure to leishmaniasis by taking all necessary precautions to avoid sand fly bites.
