Leishmaniasis is emerging infection in Nepal

The cutaneous (skin) form of leishmaniasis appears to be more common in Nepal. Sporadic cases of this infection have been reported from Dharan [Province One], Makwanpur and Dhading [Province Three], Tanahun [Province Four], Nepalgunj [Province Five], and Dolpa [Province Six].

Travellers to places where this infection occurs can reduce their risk of exposure to leishmaniasis by taking all necessary precautions to avoid sand fly bites.
