Leptospirosis in Philippines (update)

As of September 28th, nationwide, there were 1,964 reported cases of leptospirosis along with 305 deaths. Although this number is less than for the same time period in 2012, heavy rains and frequent flooding this year have contributed significantly to the spread of this infection. Travellers can reduce the risk of exposure to leptospirosis during floods or heavy rainfall by avoiding contact with flood waters, e.g., wearing waterproof boots and other protective clothing.
