LGBTI Protesters Clash with Police in Panama

The Legislative Assembly of Panama approved on October 23 a second package of reforms to the Constitution which included a veto of same-sex marriage. On Tuesday 30 October, members of the LGBTI community held a protest against these constitutional reforms, which culminated in clashes with police on the grounds of the National Assembly. Crowds were dispersed with tear gas. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has asked the National Assembly to legislate without exclusion in the debates on constitutional reforms.
