Lyme disease appears to be increasing in USA

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, reported cases of Lyme disease are increasing. For example, in Erie County, Pennsylvania, 17 cases have been confirmed so far in 2013 with 10 more suspected cases. In Lake County, Illinois, the 20 reported cases have already surpassed the 2012's high number. In Pembroke, Massachusetts, 7 cases were reported in just 1 week.

Travellers in areas where Lyme disease occurs can reduce their risk of exposure to this disease by avoiding tick bites, whenever possible, especially when hiking or camping in fields, scrub brush, woods and forests. Checking the skin daily tick checks and prompt removal of an attached tick will help to reduce the risk of infection.
