Lyme Disease risk in Maine, USA

This year, health authorities have recorded 1,231 Lyme Disease infections through November. This is the 4th year that cases of Lyme Disease have exceeded 1,000 per year.

While the risk of exposure is generally low, travellers in areas where Lyme disease occurs can reduce their risk of exposure to this disease by avoiding tick bites, whenever possible, especially when hiking or camping in fields and forests. Examining the skin daily for ticks and prompt removal of an attached tick will help to reduce the risk of infection.
