Magnitude 7.3 earthquake in northern border region between Iran and Iraq

A 7.3-magnitude earthquake has occurred in the northern border region between Iran and Iraq killing at least 348 people and injuring thousands. The hardest hit area was Kermanshah province, with most victims in the town of Sarpol-e Zahab. The town’s main hospital was severely damaged making it difficult to treat hundreds of injured people. It is estimated that at least 70,000 people will need shelter.
