Major civil unrest in Haryana State, India

Violent protests in by the Jats farming community in the municipality of Rohtak in Haryana state have resulted in 4 deaths and 80 people injured. To protest caste-based quotas in jobs and education, demonstrators have set fire to vehicles, buses and shopping malls, despite overnight curfews. The army has orders to “shoot to kill” any violators of the curfew.

Travellers in the affected area should be extremely cautious and obey all curfew orders. Public and political gatherings should be avoided since they may continue to be violent.
