Advice For Travellers

Authorities are concerned that the December 2nd protest will be the beginning of widespread conflict. On November 4, a protest at the Presidential Palace triggered a small riot, and one person was killed and more than 100 injured. Expect heightened security throughout Jakarta. To minimize safety risk, always avoid large public gatherings and demonstrations. Even peaceful situations can unexpectedly and quickly escalate and become violent.
