Major dengue fever outbreak in

More than 1,200 people, mostly children, have been hospitalised with severe dengue in Yangon between January and July. There have been 12 deaths. Most cases have been detected in Dagon Myothit (south), Hlaingthaya, Thaketa, Dagon Seikkan, Seikkyi Kanaungto, Tamwe, Dala, Mingalar Taungnyunt, Insein and Hlaing townships. The number of reported cases continues to increase.

Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
