Major dengue fever problem in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil

The 20 municipalities that make up the Metropolitan Region of Campinas are reporting 110,000 cases of dengue. Approximately one out of every 27 people has been infected. There have been 14 deaths. Among the affected municipalities, the city of Campinas accounts for 60% of the cases.

Advice For Travellers

All travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
