Major gastroenteritis outbreak in Havelock North, New Zealand

Contamination of the water supply by an as yet unknown mechanism has resulted in hundreds of people developing gastroenteritis, probably due to a bacteria known as campylobacteria. At least 18 people have been hospitalized. It is estimated that one-half of the town's population has been affected.
