Major general strike against austerity measures in Greece

Greek workers walked from their jobs in a major general strike against proposed additional austerity measures. Greek police had to use tear gas against protesters who were throwing stones and petrol bombs in Athens. At least 50,000 striking workers marched to parliament in the country's biggest anti-austerity rally in months.

Travellers to Greece should exercise caution and avoid all public and political demonstrations since they may become violent without notice. Travellers may expect some disruption of essential services, including transportation, during the strike.
