Major increase in cholera epidemic in Yemen - update

There are more than 124,000 reported cases of cholera in the current outbreak in war-torn Yemen. More than 900 people have died. The disease is now affecting 20 out of Yemen’s 22 provinces. In spite of international support, medicines and intravenous fluids are rapidly running out.

Advice

All travellers can minimize the risk of exposure to this disease. Strictly observe all food and water precautions in any area where there is cholera. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and profuse watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once.
