Major outbreak of dysentery (Shigellosis) in General Cabrera, Argentina

A massive outbreak of dysentery (Shigellosis) resulted in over 1,300 cases and 1 death in the municipality of General Cabral. Large scale contamination of the water supply is blamed for the illnesses. Food and/or water that is contaminated with human waste from infected persons is a common source for these bacteria. Travellers should always exercise caution and follow strict water and food precautions while travelling.
