Major sandstorm sweeps across Syria and Lebanon

A major sandstorm has moved across parts of Syria and Lebanon, causing 12 deaths and at least 750 hospitalizations. Tripoli, Beirut and Damascus were all affected, leaving people with respiratory problems with difficulties breathing. The storm is expected to continue into Wednesday, September 9th. The storm also affected Jordan, Israel and Egypt. In Jordan, schools shut down or cut their days short.

Travellers in the area of the storm should be cautious. A traveller with pre-existing respiratory illness should remain indoors until the storm is over.
