Makeshift bomb under ATM explodes outside Greek bank branch

In the early morning hours, a makeshift bomb exploded from under an ATM in front of a National Bank of Greece branch in Athens. The bomb caused minor damage to windows and cars parked nearby. No one has claimed responsibility. Although there were no injuries, travellers should remain alert and be aware that arson attacks against banks, foreign firms and local politicians have become more frequent in recent years due increasing unemployment and the deep economic recession.
