Malaria appears to be spreading in Madagascar

There have been 910 deaths due to malaria in the Southeast region in the districts of Mananjary, Morombe, Ankazoabo, and Ambohidratrimo since the beginning of the year. Additional deaths were recorded in the Atsimondrano district. A total of 333 cases of this infection were identified in the Ambohidratrimo district.

Travellers to any region where malaria transmission is occurring can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.
