Malaria cases in Goa State, India, increasing dramatically

Health authorities in Goa State have registered a total of 1,145 cases so far this year compared to last year’s total of 935 cases. In September, the second highest number of monthly cases (210) was reported. Twelve of these cases were the serious falciparum strain of malaria. Travellers to this region can reduce their risk of exposure to malaria by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.
