Malaria cases in Zanzibar have been reduced to 1-2 cases per week

Although malaria control efforts in Zanzibar have reduced the number of persons seeking care for malaria from 30-40 per week to 1-2 cases per week, travellers should be aware that there is still a significant risk of exposure to malaria.

Travellers to this country can reduce their risk of exposure to malaria by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.
