The number of reported infections due to malaria has decreased substantially to only 179 local malaria infections, compared to slightly over 1,000 last year.

Advice For Travellers

There is a malaria-related death every 30 seconds in Africa, predominantly among women and children. While the risk in Mpumalanga has decreased, it has not been eliminated. Any traveller to any region where malaria transmission is occurring can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.
