Authorities have expressed concerns over the high number of malaria cases reported last year in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts (9,800 cases in 2014). Travellers to any region where malaria transmission is occurring can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.
