Malaria deaths increase in Tripura, India

The sudden outbreak of malaria reported previously has continued to expand. Currently, as many as 20 to 30 thousand people may have been infected, and at least 41 have died, including 31 children. The affected districts include Gomti, South Tripura, Dhalai, North Tripura and Khowai. Medical teams have been sent to find and treat patients. Travellers to any region where malaria transmission is occurring can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.
