Malaria deaths reported in Bastar region of Chhattisgarh, India

Six people have died from the more serious strain of malaria (Plasmodium falciparum) in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh. At least a dozen more people have been hospitalized. Chhattisgarh has the second highest number of malaria cases nationwide with 78,974 reported malaria cases this year.

Travellers to any region where malaria transmission is occurring can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.
