Malaria is a risk in Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo

There is an ongoing increase in malaria in South Kivu province in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The outbreak is described as particularly severe in both scale and severity. Although the number of case in this year are not reported, last year there were at least 90,000 cases.

Any traveller to any region where malaria transmission is occurring can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.
