Malaria is common problem in Kalungu, South Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo

Three to four cases of malaria are hospitalised every day in Kalungu. Many of the cases are children and some of the infections are resistant to some anti-malaria drugs.

Travellers to this region can reduce their risk of exposureto malaria by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malariamedication is recommended.
