Malaria - major increase in number of reported cases in Democratic Republic of the Congo

Health officials have noted a major increase in the number of cases of malaria receiving treatment. The surge in cases has left clinics and treatment centres unable to cope. Six provinces that cover half the territory of the country (North Kivu, South Kivu, Maniema, Orientale, Equateur and Katanga provinces) are most affected.

Travellers to this country can reduce their risk of exposure to malaria by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.
