Malaria resistant to all drugs detected along Thai-Burmese border

New strains of malaria parasites that are resistant to all available drugs, including the last, best drug treatment, called artemisinin combination therapy, have been detected along the border of Thailand and Myanmar.

Travellers to this region should exercise extreme caution and try to reduce their risk of exposure to this strain of malaria by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria medication, although recommended, may not be effective.
