Malaria risk in India is underestimated

Official statistics in India underestimate the threat of malaria. In 2013, official statistics reported 1.1 million cases and 561 fatal outcomes. However, the World Health Organization estimates only about 4% of the actual cases are registered, and the total number in any given year could be in the range of 10 to 26 million cases with approximately 12,000 deaths.
