Malaysia tries to contain dengue fever

Nationwide, there have been 28,814 dengue fever cases with 66 deaths. Authorities appeal to the public to destroy containers of water that breed mosquitoes. In Perak state with 1,914 dengue cases and 6 deaths, 14 communities have been declared “hot spots” for dengue fever. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
