Manhunt underway in Barcelona, Spain, after shooting in tourist area

In Barcelona’s La Rambla tourist district, two unidentified gunmen allegedly opened fire at guests of the Silken Hotel after an attempted robbery of a foreign tourist. Police have killed one of the suspects, however, there is a manhunt underway for the second suspect. Several people were injured by bullet or stab wounds. The incident took place on the intersection between the La Rambla and Pinto Fortuny streets, causing panic among tourists and locals.

Advice

Pick pocketing and bag snatching is a problem in Spain, and in Barcelona, on the Ramblas, at rail stations, on the beaches and on the metro (subway). Avoid carrying large amounts of cash and keep valuables out of sight. In general, give the mugger what he wants. Then make a police report. In place where pick pocketing is a problem, consider carrying a dummy wallet and an old phone.
