Measles alert in Perth due to return of infected tourists

Two tourists were infected with measles while vacationing in Bali. While they were already sick, they travelled home to Perth on Air Asia flight QZ 548 from Denpasar to Perth on December 20. Authorities fear that more cases will occur from these two cases.

Unvaccinated tourists inadvertently often spread measles after exposures overseas. Outbreaks of measles can occur frequently anywhere in the world at any time. Unvaccinated travellers often spread the disease when they return to their countries. Travellers can reduce their risk of exposure to measles virus by ensuring that their childhood vaccinations, including measles, are up-to-date prior to travelling.
