Measles - Auckland, New Zealand

Since the middle of January, health authorities have identified 2 additional cases of measles related to an initial case that arrived by airplane from Brisbane, Australia. Another case arrived on Malaysian Airlines Flight MH131, from Kuala Lumpur to Auckland on Friday, February 18, 2011. The latest case brings the total number of cases to 18. An additional 5 possibe cases are under investigation.

Travellers visiting Auckland should be aware of the risk of exposure to measles and ensure that their childhood vaccinations are up-to-date. Passengers who arrived in New Zealand on Malaysian Airlines, Flight MH131, may have been exposed to measles and should contact public health authorities or their personal health care provider.
