Measles cases across the world

Measles cases and outbreaks are being reported from the following countries:

• USA - The number of reported cases of measles (220 cases) is the highest in the past 18 years. Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Missouri, North Carolina, California, Ohio, South Dakota and New York City have all reported cases.
• United Kingdom - 70 measles cases confirmed so far, but 1 out of 3 cases has occurred in a person who was infected while travelling overseas.
• Russia - 32 cases in Altai Republic; 24 cases in Novosibirsk Oblast (first cases in past 12 years).
• India - cases reported in Lohanagar, all less than 5 years old.
• Pakistan - 1,329 new cases nationwide this year.

Outbreaks of measles can occur frequently anywhere in the world at any time. Travellers can reduce their risk of exposure to measles virus by ensuring that their childhood vaccinations, including measles, are up-to-date prior to travelling.
