Measles cases in Punjab, Pakistan, increase at alarming rate

During the last 24 hours, there have been 146 new cases of measles reported in Punjab. The total number in the current epidemic has reached 12,490. There have been at least 87 deaths, mostly in Lahore, Gujranwala, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Kasur. Travellers are reminded that outbreaks of the highly contagious measles virus can occur anywhere in the world at any time. Travellers can reduce their risk of exposure to the highly contagious measles virus by ensuring that their childhood vaccinations, including measles, are up-to-date prior to travelling.
