Measles Continues in Democratic Republic of the Congo - Additional Information

The number of measles cases in the country continues to increase. In just the second week of July alone, as many as 850 measles cases and 6 deaths have been reported. Since the start of the year, a total of 67,438 cases and 950 deaths have been reported across the country. Majority of the cases have been reported from Sankuru, Maindombe, North Kivu, and North Ubangi.

Advice For Travellers

Sporadic cases and outbreaks are often reported by many countries. All travellers are reminded that outbreaks of the highly contagious measles virus can occur anywhere in the world at any time. Travellers who have not been immunized may be at high risk. Travellers can reduce their risk of exposure to the highly contagious measles virus by ensuring that their childhood vaccinations, including measles, are up-to-date prior to travelling.
