Measles increases in Ireland

An ongoing measles outbreak in the Health Services East, South and Midwest Regions has resulted in 19 cases, with most cases occurring in unvaccinated people in the 15-19 year age group. The cases are spread across many counties in these regions.

Advice For Travellers

Although the risk for the average traveller is low, it can be high for people who are not fully immunized.

Travellers are reminded that outbreaks of the highly contagious measles virus can occur anywhere in the world at any time. Travellers who have not been immunized may be at high risk. Travellers can reduce their risk of exposure to the highly contagious measles virus by ensuring that their childhood vaccinations, including measles, are up-to-date prior to travelling.
