Measles infections in Pakistan continue to cause deaths in children

More than 100 children have died of measles in Pakistan in the first 3 weeks of 2013 according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Of these, 63 of the cases occurred in the southern province of Sindh. Travellers are reminded that outbreaks of the highly contagious measles virus can occur anywhere in the world at any time. Travellers can reduce their risk of exposure to the highly contagious measles virus by ensuring that their childhood vaccinations, including measles, are up-to-date prior to travelling.
