Meningitis outbreak results in 2 deaths in New Zealand

Health authorities have confirmed a 12th case of meningococcal disease so far this year. A total of 11 other cases including 2 deaths have been recorded. Seven of the cases were recently diagnosed in September.

Travellers should be aware that, if they have been in close contact with a person infected with the meningitis bacteria, they should contact local health authorities. Early treatment of any of the signs and symptoms of meningitis is critical.
