Methanol deaths from illegal alcohol reported in Prague, Czech Republic

A government crisis group has been designated to investigate the 12 deaths and 20 cases due to methanol poisoning after consumption of illegally produced alcohol. Police have confiscated 1,300 liters of illegal alcohol but have not identified the source yet. About one-fifth of the alcohol consumed in the Czech Republic is illegally produced. Travellers should exercise caution and only consume commercially produced alcoholic products that have not been altered or tampered with.
