Minas Gerais and other Brazilian states continue to battle dengue fever

With over 100,000 reported cases of dengue fever, Minas Gerais may be the most affected state due to dengue fever. However, São Paulo, Sergipe and Paraná states continue to report large numbers of cases. Nearly all states in Brazil have experienced major dengue fever epidemics. There may be many unreported cases since counting and reporting may be hampered by lack of local access to health care, and many persons with mild illness may not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
