More cases of cutaneous (skin) leishmaniasis in Corrientes Province, Argentina

Three new cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis brings the total number for this year to 41 infected people. The newly infected cases reside in the capital (Corrientes), Riachuelo and San Luis del Palmar. Corrientes Province has the second highest number of cases after Salta Province with 90 cases this year.

Sporadic cases of this infection occur mostly in towns along rivers such as the Paran√° River. While the risk of exposure for the general traveller is low, travellers to this region can reduce their risk of exposure to leishmaniasis by taking all necessary precautions to avoid sand fly bites.
