More cases of dengue fever reported from Mayotte Island

During the past two weeks, there have been 5 new cases of dengue reported. Three of the cases probably acquired their infections in the Comoros Islands. So far this year, a total of 19 cases have been reported, several of whom were infected locally. Many cases of dengue fever are not reported. Counting and reporting cases may be difficult due to lack of local access to health care. Many persons with mild illness do not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
