More cases of the severe respiratory avian flu virus H7N9 in China

Chinese authorities have notified the World Health Organization of 11 newly reported cases of the severe respiratory avian flu virus H7N9. These sporadic cases occurred in 6 different provinces and territories and may herald the beginning of a resurgence of flu this season.

To date, there have been no large scale outbreaks of this avian flu strain, and the risk of exposure for travellers is low. However, travellers to China should avoid visiting live poultry markets where multiple strains of avian influenza may be circulating.
